His attempts to subordinate reality to the demands of his egomania through the medium of mendacity are fraught, as truths take the form of personal assaults. He pathetically glimpses self-knowledge, but finally rejects it as a coterie of power-hungry sycophants carries him back to his prenatal solipsism.
