The antics of this book’s fictional title character are inspired by the prevarications of the eponymous US President. His attempts to subordinate reality to the demands of his egomania through the medium of mendacity are fraught, as truths take the form of personal assaults. He pathetically glimpses self-knowledge, but finally rejects it as a coterie of power-hungry sycophants carries him back to his prenatal solipsism.
